If you use, or are thinking about using, the race tuner, here are some resources you may want to review to help you make your purchasing decision.  The manuals are in Adobe PDF format, so if you are from another planet and do not have Adobe PDF reader on your computer, then click this:   http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

SERT (Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner) complete manual from version "J" CD (32117-01J)>>  Click Here

SERT OEM calibration file information from version "J" CD>> Click Here  (this document lists all current HD calibration map names and the equipment on the bike that was tuned)

There are several "sets" of calibration files, depending on the model year and configuration of your bike.  Refer to the calibration file information above to help you zero-in on the calibration file you need.

It's up to you to choose the file that most closely mimics the hardware you have bolted on your scooter.  That will usually get you into the tuning "ballpark".

Remember, these files were created using ONLY HD SE parts: (files are from version "J" CD) In the documentation, you will find NO reference to other aftermarket manufacturers whatsoever:

Cal Files 105-xx     Cal Files 127-xx     Cal Files 129-xx     Cal Files 141-xx     Cal Files 159-xx

You must purchase the SERT module and cabling from your HD or authorized dealer.  There is a data/program  CD that comes with the SERT package.

Things you should know and consider before you purchase the SERT:

-It's good for only one bike, forever.  When it is used the first time, it records the bikes VIN in it's firmware, and from that point forward it will work ONLY with that bike.  So you can lose the grand illusions about using a single SERT on multiple bikes.

-Don't buy a SERT on Ebay unless you know without a doubt that is is brand new and has never been used.  But how will you know???

-The SERT system (the software on your computer, the SERT interface box, and the cabling) re-programs (re-flashes) the bikes main control module, the ECM, which is short for electronic control module.  So once you perform the upload to the bike (takes about a minute or so), then you disconnect the cabling from the bike and hit the road.  There is nothing extra that permanently bolts on to the bike.  If you need to make further adjustments to that file, just pull it up on the computer using the Tuning Mode software, adjust the table values of interest, save the file, then re-burn (re-program) the ECM.  Hit the road again.  Repeat this until you get your bike the way you want it.  Warning: It's not as easy as it sounds, but a lot more fun.  You can also record engine data with this system via your laptop...see below.

-You will need a laptop computer with a serial port.  When re-flashing the ECM with a new or modified EFI mapping file, make sure the computer is plugged into commercial power.  If your computer is not on commercial power and your battery fails or the computer glitches during an upload session, you will corrupt the data stream being sent to the ECM.  ECM damage is also possible.  You cannot "hot switch" a serial port on a computer.  What I mean by hot switching is this....if your computer is already on (hot), and you then plug an active serial cable in the back, all hell might break loose.  It's OK to hot switch USB cables and devices, but never do that with a serial port (or parallel port for that matter).  Always connect the SERT's serial cable to your laptop, and the other end of the cable to the EFI dongle, BEFORE you turn on the computer.  (all this with the bikes switch OFF!) Read the manual.

-SERTs program the ECM in only one direction.  The SERT system is used to upload EFI calibration mapping files to the bike.  They cannot download (suck back into the computer) the complete mapping file that currently resides in your bikes ECM.  The SERT software and module CAN tell you the name of the file currently loaded in your bikes ECM, your ECM number, VIN number, etc.  But if it is a custom created file, and not one of the standard HD files, then the name does you no good.  You will need to get the your current calibration file from whomever performed the last calibration.  These are small files, and are emailed quite easily.

-The SERT system Data Mode software WILL allow you to monitor a multitude of parameters as you ride your bike on a test strip, test track, Dyno, or just normally down the road.  You can record several minutes of riding time, save that file, then play it back and see what is happening with various MAP (manifold absolute pressure) versus throttle thresholds, cylinder VE (volume efficiency) for either cylinder, spark advance timing, injector pulse width...etc.  Your laptop is required to be with you on the bike as you are riding.  The computer is the device that is interpreting the data stream coming from the SERT module which is watching and interpreting what the ECM is doing and which table value the ECM selects at any given time during the test run.

-The SERT system is NOT simple to understand.  You don't have to be a genius, but you must want to learn about EFI tuning or leave it to a pro to do it for you.  Read the manual from beginning to end.  The manual does not answer all questions or address all situations.  Get on the HDForums.com site and perform some searches.  You will be exposed to a wealth of info there regarding fuel injection tuning.  Read a book on electronic fuel injection (Delphi injection systems).
